Well its finally happened. As many of you will know I used to work for
a small independent dairy processor. Well after a year or two of
threatened buy outs, liquidation etc it has finally been gobbled up by
Fonterra and closed down. Last day of production was today. This was one
of the many small milk stations set up in the fifties when almost every
town had its own town milk processor.
It is a sad loss for the community and I will miss the fresh milk. IT
always tasted so good as it was high quality and did not have to travel
far and was processed and in the shops the same day it was collected
from the cows. We now have a choice of milk from Auckland or Palmerston
North. Both of which come hundreds of miles. You sure can taste the
difference.
