The auction held in Cheshire had 1400 birds sold.that morning.
Probably quite a lot of those would have been small lots. The comment for
teh day on the auction report was that there was a good Bank Holiday trade
which could be interpreted as having lots of different people in there to
give good prices.
So many of the birds will have gone in many different direction.s
However many of the birds may well have only come in to the market that
morning. The bird stock was sold pretty early so there was not much time for
infection. There would have only been a relatively few birds close to the
infected ones.

Auctions keep pretty good records of all transactions so it will be a case
of the SVS etc following up on all these individual transactions.
Hopefully there were not too many private deals done outwith the auction
setup.
Hopefully this auction company keep really good records of even wee birds,
on a busy day.
Hopefully the location of the original infection - ie where the infected
birds came from in the first place - is not one of the larger units in the
likely vicinity.

That is what I believe was once called the 64000 dollar question.

We were due the results of tests on poultry from a farm on the Llyn
peninsula on Sunday last.

No results have yet been announced.

We will probably be the last people to know, hence the interest in just what
is published in the US.

how many people just pay cash at these auctions, cheque or credit card would
at least mean that purchasers could be traced, even if you weren't too sure

Which is why the second Welsh farm was visited, the owners had taken
poultry to the auction and so the authorities were checking for
infection for that reason - not, as some were reporting, because there
was another outbreak.

That maybe you, or Charles, can help with?
Certainly from our observations here with the shop in the past few years,
and especially this year, fewer and fewer or the general population carry
cash at all and even fewer use cheques.
As the poultry is more to the "general" population, including smallholders,
than the farming population, the latter being more used to the cash economy,
its probable that a good proportion of transactions were card based. However
it also depnds on how the markets themselves influence the exchange. Some
places still prefer cash or cheques and simply have little in the way of
card facilities. ???

Yup -- with 1400 birds sold that morning, there will be alot of it.
Its possible that those birds were close to the infected ones at the sale
itself, which would increase their importance and likelihood of infection.

And its negative
http://new.wales.gov.uk/news/presreleasearchive/1473127/?lang=en

Test results for the H7N2 strain of avian flu from poultry on a farm on the
Llyn Peninsula have proved negative. The final results received today by the
Welsh Assembly Government confirm that birds on the farm are not infected
with this virus.

trouble is the marts I'm used to we are talking about transactions probably

too large for cash, and most is done on account with bills sent out to be
paid by the end of the month
I suspect that this isn't the model a lot of these poultry marts follow,
even if the same firm uses it for cattle and sheep

Published on the Welsh Assembly website yesterday. You should look at

Welsh websites instead of American, but then of course you wouldn't be
able to post your nonsense like the above.
