.

In newsnet you are judged entirely on what you write.
Without any introduction or explanation you inferred that an article
about a farmer ignoring the regulations about the disposal of his
sheep in a location about 400 miles from Chelford Market might have
some relevance.

it may be that he has never heard of the fallen stock scheme, which
isn't an unreasonable oversight for someone not from the EU

Except that the article mentioned it

;)

all we can say is that he can write
nothing so far shows ability to read ;-)

back to Islay

In the usual (!) glorious sunshine, of course :-)

All day?

There was a shower last night and a bit of cloud this morning which
quickly dispersed. Thin high cloud now moving in from the east. Otherwise
all day :-)

It was quite revolting here -- drizzly in the morning with midges complete
with tackety boots.

It's been generally too breezy for the little dears here, though
admittedly I haven't deliberately gone into a sheltered glen to find
them!

No they don't.

Hasty Jill? Of course they do or AI would be extinct.

Your inference throughout, which of course you will deny, as usual, was that
this was just par for the course and perfectly usual and normal in the
poultry keeping world large or small

AI in any population is not common or usual. It is not like human flu which
a greater proportion of any human population are likely to catch each year
let alone numbers of times in any one lifetime

This is NOT the case in poultry and it should not even be intimated that it
is.

They would be very stupid not to have a routine to deal with it.

But its not routine to have to deal with it.
Strategies are in place for any disease breach but that does not mean they
are expected, normal, routine or run of the mill.

Quote:

- as they did even with H5N1 until recent scare stories.

Wrong again

Even H5N1 - Scotland 1959 & England 1991 for eg.

Not routine, very isolated and dealt with rapidily

The tenor of your post suggested that AI was commonplace -- its not and
never has been
Hence my terse refutations.

Quote:

This mini outbreak is nothing for the general population** to worry
about.

** Jill might have reason to worry.

Wrong again as a poultry keepr or as a person

Fair enough - you're clearly paying it plenty of attention but from
here I can't tell whether it's academic interest, customer relations,
niggling doubt or full-blown nightmares - hence the 'might'.

I have no fears as a person, H7N2 is mild and, for this one, I am unlikely
to come into direct contact with the birds.
I spend my days talking to poultry / waterfowl keepers so feel its my
responsibility to know whats happening, especially when there is so much
ridiculous information being bandied about. The foibles of the internet ;)

Does it look to be any worse than usual this year?

HORRENDOUS -- no frost all winter -- they are early, they are everywhere,
and they are biting.
The weather is playing directly into their mouths ! - showery having had
several warm dry weeks in April
;(
Avon Skin so soft / Jungle formula / Midge hoods are recommended
I know thats not politically correct for tourist attraction but until we get
some decent dry weather they are bad.
But the flip side is that the whole area is looking GLORIOUS -- VERDANT;
the weather has brought the rhodies out and everywhere looks amazing.

Thanks Charles for the great insight
Is 1400 quite a lot of birds then, especially with a busy auction
timetable or did they have lots of different sale rooms?

They rattle through the lots, up to about 120per hour. 1400 is quite a
busy auction, but I think it was normal to have more birds per cage at
Chelford. They can probably sell up to about 400 birds per hour. The
larger auctions go up to over 2000 birds. Usually they run at least
two auctions simultaneously. Often four, waterfowl, bantams, large
fowl and equipment. Chelford is a pretty big market. When we were
there the birds were sold a good distance from where they sold other
animals. On that occasion it was an evening auction and nothing else
was being sold at the time.

Thanks -- much appreciated.
Hope they have improved their computer skills since
;)

I don't read Frith, but I did read Websters pathetic attempts eventually to
provide some substantiation and if you look back, you fill find that he was
as usual being misleading and economical with the truth.

I took considerable treouble to check the references, which may well have
been provided by Frith to assist Webster. I asked him several times over
quite a long period before he posted anything - and that was full of holes
and most certainly did not tie up with what Webster had been claiming.

I continue to be amazed that Farmers Guardian and the CLA have anything to
do with someone continuing to claim that pigs are being scanned by the NHS.

It says a great deal about standards in British farming and its continuing
propensity to generate and spread rural myths, the more damaging the better.

Nonsense yet again.

I think it would be in everyone's interests if you ceased posting and got on
with some work. I appreciate that you use this group as a means of
inspiration for your articles, which is harmless enough, but you don't need
to post to do that. A daily read would be just as effective.

I can see that over the last couple of years you have made a very
considerable effort to clean up your act. You have lost the Vance nonsense,
ceased juvenile abuse of political figures and in general have been less
aggressive. Your nasty legacy remains however with some of your less
talented friends taking over your role as chief bully.

You continue nonsense brawling with animal rights and welfare people, which
is especially stupid. Although you occasionally slip, the tormenting of
newcomers has become less frequent and unpleasant at least by you.

Whether, as someone here has suggested, you really have become a "born
again" and are making an effort to reform, I don't know. Following your
amazing accidental posting of that petition for prayers, I did check and
noticed that you have ceased posting to atheist groups.

However, it may just be continuing evidence of a double life in which you
have one normal personality in Cumbria and something quite different here.
That would certainly be consistent with your Vance stuff in which you
strongly advocate deception as a means of self and group entertainment,
perhaps even advancement.

In short, you may be making progress but the welcome changes, which do not
go far enough, may just be your usual deceitful games. We shall have to see.
