might have started lambing

Hello all. No, I don't start lambing till next week. The phones in the
whole area were hit by lightning on 28th Feb. BT have only just restored
our line this afternoon, having replaced a lot of wire and various bits
of kit.
Right, re this incident. A girl was drunk and thrown out of a nightclub.
She then did £3000 worth of damage to a car (I understand). She
apparently pleaded guilty to this at court. All we have is a very
indistinct CCTV picture where an officer apparently strikes her. This
was admitted to by the arresting officer and fully documented in his
notes. He stated this was necessary to apply the handcuffs. I never had
the same courses that are completed by police today but I have been
assured that striking someone like this is in the manual. Please note
that the video does not show what he actually hit but she had no
injuries from any blow.
It sounds to me that the press may have blown the incident out of all
proportion in order to get a story out of it.

vaccine available in UK too.
Its a live vaccine (like salk polio vaccine) so the animals excrete
virus. For young animals there is almost no observable effect, but for
adults its rather devastating (like no milk that year).
Cheats, who have youngstock in close proximity to cows, might be tempted
to buy a few shots of vaccine and let the excretion vaccinate the rest
and give a booster to the older animals.
Well, its what we did anyway...

Quite.
Much the same with accidents involving what used to be called HGVs,
due to the moving masses involved they are more newsworthy than the
average car crash, however when you look at accidents per vehicle mile
(or kilometre) they are the safest vehicles on the road (or were).
They can also be the most courteous.
I used to have to cross a busy road on my walk to the station. No
pedestrian crossing places so it was a case of getting across a constant
stream of vehicles moving at a slow crawl. You walked forward to show your
wish to cross and waited for one of the slowmoving vehicles to slow further
to let you across; it was more often than not a commercial vehicle that
slowed although they were in the minority I would say.
A belated thankyou to those concerned.

Yes we always used to look out for one another, and other road users
where possible, except of course for Triumph Toledo drivers wearing
trilbies, I suspect the modern equivalent would be BMW drivers or
Vauxhall Corsa drivers with those caps with the peak at the back.
Not necessarily always true these days, also the long distance coach
drivers used to be true kings of the road but again the cowboy
quotient has increased over the years.
Partly it's a regional thing too, here we mostly tend to do things
like pull into a wide bit of road when there's oncoming traffic, and
you'll even see four-wheel-drivers actually go onto mud, whereas sahf
of the river where mindless aggression rules the 4wd would stop right
in the middle of the narrowest bit of road and wait until *you* had
backed into the mud before proceeding . . .

I'm seriously considering working on this. Mother suffers from COPD

Try it for a week and see.
Doctor will give you a months supply for a prescription charge.

Oh I've given up several times in the past, but it never lasted. Not
tried an inhaler though, patches, gum or cold turkey, and illness all
worked temporarily.
Mind you I'm feeling suddenly a lot better and more optimistic since
catching a few rays, the hibernation response is much reduced, one of

Zyban would work well but not sure how nicely it would play with my

Good stuff. I remember the smiths shrinking iron tyres on horse cart
wheels, 'twasnt as simple as it looks. There is a lady locally that
goes in for whatever they call horse carriaging competitions, but as I
havn't three hours to spare, will ask her later in the summer.
Ho ! Humm.... With tyres fitted to wooden rims it wasn't as difficult
as the Iron rims....
There was a formula that gave the length of Iron tyre that had to be
welded into a circle, given the outside diameter of the wooden wheel.
Then heated up to just below red and dropped around the wheel then
quenched.
The tightening then nipped up all the joints in the wheel and made it fast.
The nave was of elm, the spokes of oak and the fellows of ash.

Anyone here remember Jack Hargreaves? He used to cover all these old

Certainly in Salisbury, but I never approved of all those new fangled
appliences he used to show. Too 19th century.
I do remember him showing a large bridge near Salisbury and pointing out
that the bridge was 5 arches wide but even in the 60s
the river never exceeded the central arch. Over use of water was clear
even then. |
